The number to remember: since 15 June 2026, France reimburses Wegovy® and Mounjaro® at 65% for adults with an initial BMI of 40, or 35 with one of 14 listed comorbidities, after a documented 6-month nutritional program with less than 5% weight loss. The official criteria, in plain words
Reimbursement applies to adults, alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, in two situations:
- Initial BMI ≥ 40, with no other medical condition required; or
- initial BMI ≥ 35 with at least one comorbidity from the closed list reproduced in the form above.
Both routes share an entry condition: the documented failure of a properly conducted nutritional program, at least 6 months of support with less than 5% weight loss. And it is the BMI when treatment started that counts, “whatever the treatment’s reimbursement status”: if you have already lost weight on treatment, you are still assessed on your starting point.
If your answers match: the pathway in 4 steps
- Your GP (médecin traitant) reviews your situation (BMI, comorbidities, history) and refers you.
- An authorized prescriber (specialized obesity center, teaching hospital, specialized department) writes the first prescription. Waiting times are not published; patient reports range from 3 to 8 months for a first appointment, depending on the region.
- They fill in the official companion form (on amelipro) once and hand you your copy.
- Show that copy at the pharmacy every single time, with the prescription: without it, no reimbursement, and no retroactivity. Renewals can then be handled by your GP.

FAQ — eligibility in France
Can my GP prescribe Wegovy and have it reimbursed?
Not the first time: the initial reimbursed prescription is reserved for specialists in authorized structures. Your GP can handle every renewal afterwards. And since June 2025, any doctor can prescribe these drugs outside the reimbursement scheme, at the public price.
Is a BMI of 30 enough?
For the drug itself, yes (the license starts at 30, or 27 with a comorbidity); for reimbursement, no: the orders set 40, or 35 with a listed comorbidity. In between, prescription is possible at the full public price.
Is Ozempic reimbursed for weight loss?
No. Ozempic® is only reimbursed for type 2 diabetes, and Saxenda® is not reimbursed at all. Only Wegovy® and Mounjaro® are covered by the 2026 scheme.
I started treatment before 15 June 2026: does this apply to me?
Yes: the criteria are assessed as of when your treatment started, even before 15 June 2026, but you must get the form from an authorized prescriber. There is no retroactive reimbursement.
Does PCOS count as a comorbidity?
Yes, polycystic ovary syndrome is on the official list, for patients of childbearing age.
What happens around months 4–6 of treatment?
France's HAS recommends assessing the treatment at around 6 months, against a 5% weight-loss marker; the orders set no automatic cut-off. Continuing is your doctor's decision.
What about type 2 diabetes?
That is a separate route: Mounjaro® is reimbursed there as part of dual or triple therapy, and any doctor can prescribe it, with the same type of form to show at the pharmacy.
