Yes, you can change the day of your weekly injection — the constraint in the official product information is simple: leave at least 3 days (72 hours) between two doses. Heading on holiday, Sunday no longer convenient, chaotic week ahead: here’s how to shift cleanly, in either direction, and how to handle your pen when travelling.

The official rule: at least 72 hours between doses

The Wegovy® and Mounjaro® SmPCs both allow the same flexibility: the day of weekly administration can be changed if necessary, as long as the time between two doses is at least 3 days (72 hours).

Concretely, if you inject on Sundays and want to move to Wednesdays:

  • Moving earlier: last dose Sunday → new dose as early as the following Wednesday (a 3-day gap — exactly the permitted minimum).
  • Moving later: Sunday → the Wednesday 10 days later — also allowed, as long as you stay within the missed-dose catch-up window (see below).

Once the new day is chosen, simply resume the weekly rhythm from there. No dose adjustment, no “half-injection” in between — you never split a dose on your own initiative anyway.

Earlier or later: the trick that simplifies everything

Both directions are compliant — and here is what changes everything: a large shift in one direction is a small shift in the other. The days of the week wrap around 7: going from Sunday to Thursday is moving 4 days later… or 3 days earlier, in one single move, staying above the 72 hours. Every possible new day is therefore at most 3 days away in one of the two directions: pick that direction, make one change, and resume your weekly rhythm. Stepping over several weeks (+2 days, then +2) is only worth it if you want every gap to stay close to 7 days.

And if the reshuffle made you miss a week entirely, you’re no longer changing days — you’ve missed a dose: the official catch-up windows (5 days for Wegovy®, 4 for Mounjaro®) are covered in our missed-injection guide.

Jet lag: good news, the hour doesn’t matter

These treatments work in days, not hours. The product information states they can be administered at any time of day, with or without meals. A London–New York flight (5 hours’ difference) changes nothing: keep your injection day and inject at whatever local time suits you. No time-zone arithmetic is needed for a weekly medication.

Your pen on the road: the storage rules

The official figures from the product information:

  • Wegovy® (FlexTouch, in use): can be kept below 30 °C for up to 6 weeks — or refrigerated (2–8 °C).
  • Mounjaro® (KwikPen, after first use): keep below 30 °C, discard after the 4th dose or, at the latest, 30 days after first use.

What that means in practice:

  • Always in cabin luggage, never in the hold (freezing risk — a frozen pen goes in the bin).
  • A small cool pouch covers the journey; avoid direct contact with an ice pack (same freezing risk).
  • Above 30 °C (beach, car in the sun), the pen stays behind: leave it somewhere cool at your accommodation.
  • Carry your prescription: it justifies the needles and medication at security checks, and helps if anything is lost.

The new day, without thinking about it

The trap when changing days is the transition week: habit pulls towards the old day; the calendar says the new one.

Doza's reminder screen on iPhone: injection day and next-day follow-up

In the Doza app, just log your dose on the new day: the next reminder automatically follows it (last dose + your interval), next-day follow-up included. Every logged dose also keeps its exact date: handy for checking at a glance that the 72 hours are respected.

FAQ — changing days and travelling

Can I take my Wegovy 2 days early?

Yes: moving 2 days earlier leaves a 5-day gap after the previous dose, above the 3-day (72-hour) minimum. Beyond 4 days earlier, the gap would drop below 72 hours — but a big move earlier is just a small move later (5 days earlier = 2 days later), allowed in one single change.

What is the minimum gap between two Mounjaro injections?

At least 3 days (72 hours), per the SmPC. The new day then becomes your regular weekly day.

What do I do about my injection when crossing time zones?

Nothing special: keep your injection day and inject at a convenient local time. Weekly treatments aren’t sensitive to the exact hour.

How long does Wegovy keep outside the fridge?

The in-use FlexTouch pen keeps for up to 6 weeks below 30 °C. Never let it freeze: a frozen pen must be discarded. If it has been exposed to more than 30 °C, ask your pharmacist.

Can I put my pen in checked luggage?

No: the hold can drop below 0 °C, and a frozen pen is unusable. Always in the cabin, ideally in a cool pouch without direct contact with an ice pack.
